Bistro Byronz is also excited to announce that it will be kicking off The David Toms Foundation matching program for this fundraiser.  The David Toms Foundation will match a percentage of the funds raised during these events in order to maximize the fundraising efforts.  “We’ve chosen to kick the matching program off with this project because Moonbot’s good for Shreveport and we want Shreveport to be good for Moonbot,” says David Toms.

The Capital Area Corporate Recycling Council is a nonprofit organization committed to electronic scrap reduction by providing recycled computers and equipment to schools, nonprofits, and low-income families through the generous contributions of supporters, which include business, nonprofits, individuals, and federal agencies.

How did you get started with this business and what is your position within the company?

I moved from Beaumont, Texas whenever my husband took a job as a features writer at The Advocate. We found this job advertised on Craigslist and I fell in love with my dream job, working as an outreach coordination for the Capital Area Corporate Recycling Council. My job is a combination of community outreach, marketing, writing and networking with businesses and fellow nonprofits – while saving the world by helping promote electronic recycling! What could be better?

What are some other interesting tidbits about the organization?
As a nonprofit electronics refurbisher and recycler, the CACRC represents a large part of this demographic, since nonprofit recyclers make up 2% of the electronics recycling industry.

After hurricane Katrina, the CACRC donated 3,500 computers to individuals, nonprofits and schools impacted by the storm.

Every year, the CACRC recycles over 1,200 tons of e-scrap.

As an electronics recycler, the CACRC has won the Environmental Leadership Program (ELP) award in the Non-Governmental Organization Pollution Prevention from the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality five years straight, including the 2013 award.

The CACRC is open for the “Computers For Louisiana’s Families” program (for qualified low-income families, current college students) and the general public Mon. – Fri. from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. What led you to start this business?
I started the business to own something of my own and have when I retired from the corporate world which I did 5 years ago.  I chose the floral industry because it is a happy business that people really enjoy.

Tell us a little more about the business today?
We are located on Youree Dr right in front of SAMs Club.  We are open from 8am to 6 pm. Monday through Friday and Saturday from 9am to 5pm.  We were just voted again by the readers of The Times Best Florist in Shreveport/ Bossier.  We carry the largest selection of fresh flowers in the area and have lots of arrangements in our walk in cooler ready to go.

What is your favorite part of the job?
My team of nine people are the greatest!  We work hard but have lots of fun everyday.  Our customers really appreciate how well they are treated.  Whatever it takes we will satisfy our customers.  If we make a mistake, we make it right no questions asked.  We love our customers!

 Any other interesting tidbits about your business?
Free delivery to hospitals and funeral homes  on 1 dozen roses.  If you work hard, have a great team, put the customer first, keep a clean fun store, always be friendly over time you discover their is very little serious competition.
